The match took place between India and Ireland at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi on 6th March 2011. He was the pick of bowlers for India with 5 for 31 in his 10 overs and helped them to bowl out Ireland for 207 in 47.5 overs.

Chasing the target of 208 runs to win, India were struggling at 100 for 4. Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni added 67 runs for the 5th wicket. Singh remained not out on 50 and helped India register 5 wicket win with 4 overs to spare. He was named the man of the match for his all-round performance. Yuvraj Singh became the first player to score a half-century and take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup match.
