Trent Boult Applauds Two-Bouncer Rule In Cricket

Trent Boult, who’s now playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024, is getting ready for a busy cricket season. He’ll be playing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and Major League Cricket later this year. Boult used to play for New Zealand but now he’s freelancing, which means he’s not tied to any team. He’s happy about this because it means he can spend more time with his family while still playing cricket.

Boult has been doing okay in the IPL this season. He’s taken seven wickets in seven matches, which has helped Rajasthan Royals get to the top of the points table with 12 points. Boult likes the new rule in cricket that allows bowlers to bowl two bouncers in an over. He thinks it’s a good idea because cricket grounds are smaller now, and the pitches are flatter. This means the ball doesn’t move around as much as it used to.

So, having the option to bowl two bouncers makes it harder for batsmen to predict what the bowler will do. Boult said, “Two bounces in an over is a good initiative… it just gives the bowlers another card up their sleeve to try to be that little bit more unpredictable.”

He also thinks the Impact Player rule, which lets teams have strong batters even down to number 10, has made a big difference in the IPL. Teams are scoring more runs, and there have been some really high scores, like over 250 runs.

Boult said, “I think it has made a huge difference… the boundary counts are higher than they have ever been.”

However, Boult thinks the new rule has changed the game a lot because teams can now pick their players differently. Before, teams had to stick to certain patterns, but now they can mix things up more. Rajasthan Royals, who are currently leading the table, are getting ready to play against Mumbai Indians in their next match at their home ground in Jaipur on 22nd April.
