India’s T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, humorously addressed why he avoids the stump mic while advising players, saying it’s Rohit Sharma’s signature style and best left to the Hitman. The Men in Blue made a strong start in the ongoing T20I series against England, winning the opening match by seven wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

India bowled first, restricting England to 132 and successfully chasing down the target in 12.5 overs, despite Suryakumar being dismissed for a duck. In a special segment on Star Sports’ ‘Superstars’ show, India’s T20I captain shared why he doesn’t plan to imitate his predecessor Rohit’s stump mic style of leadership.

During a lighthearted chat, the 34-year-old explained:

“Try karta hoon door rahoon stumps se. Agar kisi ka woh specialty hai toh won unhe ke sath rahe toh zada better hai.” (I try to stay away from the stumps. If it’s someone’s specialty, then it’s better that it stays with that person only.)

Suryakumar humorously responded to a question about whether he understands Rohit’s “yeh, woh” style of communication, jokingly saying:

“Haan woh jab hum ghumte rehte hai garden mai, woh sunne ko mil hi jata hai.” (Yes, when we roam in the garden, we get to hear those things.)

He jokingly added that he doesn’t need to remind players to stop wandering in the garden, saying:

“Nahi, mai nahi rokta hu kisi ko kyuki koi ghumta hi nahi hai.” (I don’t stop anyone because no one roams around.)

Rohit’s “koi garden mein ghumega” remark went viral as a meme after being picked up by the stump mic during last year’s India vs England Test series.

“It’s Simply An Additional Responsibility” – Suryakumar Yadav On Leading The T20I Side

On a serious note, Suryakumar described captaining the Indian T20I team as an extra responsibility. He emphasized that he also enjoyed his time playing purely as a batter. The aggressive right-hander said:

“Both are fun. It’s just an added responsibility. I am doing the same thing that I was doing earlier as well. It’s just that something has been added in the bracket now. Nothing much has changed. Fun is there.”

After making a late T20I debut, Suryakumar has scored 2,570 runs in 79 matches, averaging 40.15 with a strike rate of 167.53, including four centuries and 21 fifties.
