Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli bagged a golden duck against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the DY Patil Sports Academy. This is his first golden duck in five years and fourth overall in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Dusmantha Chameera gave Lucknow Super Giants a flying start after KL Rahul opted to bowl first. The Sri Lankan speedster dismissed Anuj Rawat in the fifth delivery of the first over before getting the better of Kohli in the very next ball to leave everyone stunned.

The talismanic batter, who has been short of runs in recent times, tried to fetch a wide delivery and gave a simple catch. It was a back of a length ball and Virat Kohli thought he could guide it through the off-side. However, the ball bounced an inch or two more which got the better of the right-handed batter.

The 33-year-old failed to keep the ball down and gave a straightforward catch to Deepak Hooda, who was placed in the point region. Meanwhile, fans were certainly disheartened to see Kohli getting out of the first delivery. Many urged him to drop from the playing XI others opined that he is nearing the end of his career.

Virat Kohli has accumulated only 119 runs in seven matches so far in IPL 2022 at an average of 19.83 and a strike rate of just over 120. Going by the gargantuan standards he has set for himself, the numbers look extremely poor.

Faf du Plessis steers RCB to 181 after an early collapse

Lucknow Super Giants bowlers used the new ball to perfection, reducing Bangalore to 62/4 in 7.2 overs but Faf du Plessis held things strong from one end. He formed an alliance with Shahbaz Ahmed to add 70 runs for the fifth innings to keep the team going.

Du Plessis was the aggressor between the two, hitting everything at his arc while Shahbaz rotated the strike to keep the scoreboard. Although Shahbaz was run out, the RCB pressed gears to take the total to 181 runs. Faf du Plessis got out in the penultimate ball of the 20th over after a well-made innings of 96 runs off 64 balls, including 11 boundaries and two sixes.
