Sydney Thunder registered the lowest-ever total against Adelaide Strikers played at Sydney Showground Cricket Stadium, Sydney on 16 December 2022.
It was a disastrous performance by the Thunder batters in today’s match. Alex Hales, Matthew Gilkes, captain Jason Sangha, Chris Green, and Gurinder Sandhu all were dismissed without opening their account. They were skittled out for just 15 runs in 5.5 overs. Brendan Doggett was the top scorer with 4 runs.
Adelaide Strikers captain Peter Siddle won the toss and decided to bat first. Chris Lynn was the top scorer with 36 along with Colin de Grandhomme making 33 helping the Strikers post 139 for 9 in 20 overs. Fazallah Farqooi was the pick of bowlers for Thunder with 3 for 20, and Gurinder Sandhu, Sams, and Doggett grabbed 2 wickets each.
Sydney Thunder batters struggled against top-quality Strikers bowling kept losing wickets in quick succession. Henry Thorton was the pick of the bowlers with 5 wickets giving away just 3 runs while Wes Agar took 4 wickets for 6 runs and Matthew Short took 1 wicket.
The previous lowest total in Big Bash League history was by Melbourne Renegades against Melbourne Stars during the 2015 edition. Renegades scored 57 runs in 12.4 overs at Dockland Stadium, Melbourne.
Thunder looked out of sorts in today’s match as none of their star batters could contribute. They also broke the record for the lowest-ever total in Big Bash League history. Thunder won the opening match against Melbourne Stars off the last ball.
Royal Challengers Bangalore posted the lowest-ever total in IPL. They were bowled out for 49 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders on 23rd April 2017. Thunder looked out of sorts with their batting as Rilee Rossouw struggled to make just 3 runs.
For his 5 wickets for 3 runs, Henry Thorton was named the player of the match award. Thunder would be hoping that they can forget this horrible performance and start fresh in the next encounter.
