Twitter was split when BCCI announced Rohit Sharma as the new vice-captain for the last two Tests against Australia. Rohit who began batting in the nets today has replaced Cheteshwar Pujara as the vice-captain. In the second Test seasoned batsman Pujara became the vice-captain as Ajinkya Rahane led team India in absence of Virat Kohli.

Rohit who has a stellar record as captain in white-ball cricket was preferred over Pujara as soon as he joined the side. Today BCCI declared an updated India squad for the last two Tests in which surprisingly Rohit got the vice-captaincy. This created a buzz on Twitter as many agreed to the decision of BCCI whereas others said that it was unfair on Pujara and Ashwin.

Both Pujara and Ashwin are two of the most experienced players in the Test squads. The duo has performed consistently in white and many on Twitter wanted them to become vice-captain in the remaining two Tests. As far as Rohit is concerned his incredible leadership skills in white-ball cricket and his record in the IPL resulted in him being vice-captain even in Test cricket.

Now the captain Ajinkya Rahane and vice-captain Rohit Sharma belong from the same state and many on Twitter even gathered that the management is being biased towards Mumbai. To be fair those who are criticising the decision does have valid reasons as Rohit has not performed like white-ball cricket in Tests and on the other hand, Pujara and Ashwin have been proven match-winner.

However, Rohit Sharma is again being backed by the selectors and management and he got the nod ahead of anyone. Meanwhile, this is how Twitter acted once Rohit became vice-captain of India’s Test squad.
