Team India pacer Umesh Yadav has allegedly been duped by his friend-turned-manager of Rs. 44 lakhs, under the pretext of purchasing land in the cricketer’s name in Nagpur city, Maharashtra. He filed a First Information Report (FIR) against his manager Shailesh Thakre in the Koradi Police Station, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI).

Shailesh Thakre was a friend of Umesh Yadav and is a resident of Koradi. The pacer had assigned the work of managing his finances, properties, and accounts to his manager in 2014. He asked Thakre to help him buy a piece of land and transferred Rs 44 lakhs from his State Bank of India account at MSEB Colony in Koradi to the accused’s account. However, as per Umesh Yadav’s complaint, Shailesh Thakre took the money and purchased the property but in his own name. When asked by the pacer, he was not ready to repay or transfer the property to Umesh’s name.

Following Umesh Yadav’s complaint the police have registered an offence against Thakre for criminal breach of trust and cheating. They are yet to make any arrest in the case.

After Umesh Yadav’s complaint, a case was registered under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code: Police Official

Releasing the details of Umesh Yadav’s complaint, a police official said to the PTI, that the accused gained the pacer’s trust and then duped him of 44 lakhs. The official stated,

“Thakre gained the trust of Yadav over time. He started handling all the financial affairs of Umesh Yadav. He used to handle Yadav’s bank account, income tax, and other financial tasks. Thakre located a plot in a barren area. He told Yadav he would get it for Rs 44 lakh. Yadav deposited Rs 44 lakh in Thakre’s bank account. However, Thakre purchased the plot in his name.”

“Yadav lodged a complaint with police in Koradi, following which a case was registered under sections 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating and thereby dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code,” the official added.
