MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings had their worst IPL season in the recently concluded IPL 2020. CSK did not get to the IPL playoffs for the first time ever in their history. Dhoni, on the other end, had his worst year with the bat scoring just 200 runs from 14 games without a single fifty-plus score.

Former Indian wicket-keeper Kiran More said it’s on MS Dhoni to take a call on his IPL future. MS Dhoni is currently ageing 39 and by the time the next IPL comes, he will move closer to 40. Talking to Times of India, More said that its totally on MS Dhoni to say if he is willing to play the next IPL season if he will be fit mentally and physically.

Incidentally, the legendary cricketer has already confirmed his participation for IPL 2021 which is a couple of months now. CSK will have to revamp their core group and come all guns blazing in next IPL to revive their pride in the competition.

“It’s up to Dhoni how he feels – mentally and physically. Will his body allow him to play next year? Dhoni himself knows the answer better than others,” said More.

Kiran More further said that the call to retire from the league is also solely MS Dhoni’s call. The former selector also took a cue from Chris Gayle to back MS Dhoni’s decision to play at this age. Notably, Gayle has been in outstanding form for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL 2020.

“It is totally Dhoni’s call (retiring from IPL). Age is just a number for Dhoni. Chris Gayle is 41 and he is doing really well. This is the biggest example before us. We shouldn’t doubt Dhoni’s abilities. If he wants to play, he will play. So, let’s leave it to him,” he added.

MS Dhoni went past 200 IPL games this season. He is currently on 204 games. Rohit Sharma played his 200th IPL game in the IPL 2020 final against Delhi Capitals.

After the end of their IPL campaign, Dhoni said that this time they were not quite there. However, he pointed out a few positives that the team found even in a disappointing season. Ruturaj Gaikwad was one such positive Dhoni spoke about. He finished the season with three back to back half-centuries leaving behind an impact in the season.
