In a sudden turn of events, Arsalan Khawaja, brother of Australian international cricketer  Usman Khawaja has been arrested. He has been sentenced for two years of jail on charges of plotting fak terror in the name of his colleague. The development has been confirmed as per news reports in the Sydney Morning Herald. According to the report, Arsalan Khawaja jotted down a series of threats in a book belonging to his colleague Mohamed Kamer Nizamdeen and handed it over to his Project Manager at the New South Wales University.

Arsalan was jealous of his colleague having a number of female friends for company. When the cops got involved, the cricketer’s brother misled them by stating that he found the book accidentally. The investigators arrested Arsalan’s colleague, until they found that it was a trap.

The New South Wales District Court Judge, Robert Weber, understood that it was a case of mutual jealousy. Reports further said that Nizamdeen, Arsalan’s colleague was closer to one of Arsalan’s friends whom he was also interested in.

Usman  Khawaja’s Brother Jailed For Two Years

The threats listed by Arsalan included getting bombs and weapon training, launching attacks in Australia and other countries besides targeting former Aussie Prime Minister Malcolm Turnball, police stations, the Boxing Day Test match, and St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Khawaja was in tears at his hearing after he got himself into big trouble. His actions has also brought a lot of disrespect to his family and his brother, who is an international Australian cricketer. Khawaja’s lawyer said at his hearing ” he is truly sorry for what he has done. He has been living with the consequences of his action every day.”

Meanwhile, his colleague Nizamdeen has fled the country after he was proved innocent in the court hearing. “This whole saga clearly ruined my future,” said Nizamdeen in the press conference after he was cleared.
