KL Rahul took a brilliant catch to dismiss Upul Tharanga of Ravichandran Ashwin for 0 in the second over of Sri Lankan innings. After taking a catch, Kohli was happy with KL Rahul and both of them performed a dab together. All the Indian players jumped with joy and Tharanga was surprised that the catch was taken by the fielder.
It was a reflex action catch by Rahul which stuck between the hands. India started on a positive note with Ravichandran Ashwin bowling the second over. He bowled five dot balls and dismissed Tharanga on the last bowl of the over. India got the early wicket to put pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen. Ravichandran Ashwin picked the 2 wickets that fell. He bowled 10 overs, giving away 38 runs with 2 wickets.
India had posted 622 for 9 after important knocks from the lower order including half centuries from Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, 70 from Ravindra Jadeja which helped India push the total above 600 for the second consecutive time in the series. In the first test too, the visitors had posted exact 600 runs. Sri Lanka still trails India by 572 runs with 8 wickets. Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis are the creases with a massive job to do on the third day. If Sri Lanka is to save the test match, the batsmen need to play with positive intent against Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin.
KL Rahul replaced Mukund in this match after injuring the shoulder in the home test series against Australia. He scored 57 runs during the first innings which give a solid foundation for the visitors. The catch was a big one as Tharanga would have played with positive intent.
