The English side decimated the hosts as they won the match by 57 runs at Pallakele. The batting unit has shown some grit and determination in the middle and skipper Joe Root’s belligerence made the difference to the result. His 15th century came at the right moment when the side couldn’t handle the spin by Akila Dhananjaya.
One of the best catches in the recent times was taken by the combo of Keating Jennings – Ben Foakes yesterday. Dimuth Karunaratne’s wicket turned the match in England’s favour as it stemmed the run flow. Jennings anticipated the shot by the style of delivery bowled by Rashid and tilted towards the left from his FSL. Though he lost his balance, he made sure to pass it on to keeper Ben Foakes who did not make any mistake in handling it.
The video has been trending in social media since yesterday and receiving several retweets. Jennings who shown his brilliance with the bat in the Asian conditions for the second time in his career during the last game was widely applauded. This time with his flexibility in the middle he has attracted quite a few fans and this wicket even turned out to be a match-winning one for the visitors.
Joe root was awarded MOM for his match-winning century and a depleted Srilankan side will not enjoy the services of their star performer Akila Dhananjaya for the next test as he is about to get his bowling action tested.
The last and final match will be played at Colombo from November 23rd and the English side will be looking for a whitewash.
