The Australian Marnus Labuschagne produced a brilliant catch to dismiss Pakistan opener Mohammad Hafeez during the opening day’s play of second test match played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the 3rd over as Mohammad Hafeez hit from the middle of the bat, Labuschange showed great reflexes and the ball stuck into his hands. Mitchell Starc was wicket-taker and Hafeez was dismissed for just 4 runs.
The Australian bowlers made a strong start reducing Pakistan to 57 for 5. Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and debutant Fakhar Zaman rescued the innings with a brilliant 150 runs partnership for the 6th wicket. Both Ahmed and Zaman scored 94 runs respectively to help Pakistan recover to 282 runs.
Before the close of play, Pakistan reduced Australia to 20 for 2. Australia produced a strong batting performance on the final day of the 1st test to draw the test. Labuschange was brilliant with the ball picking 3 wickets for 45 runs. Nathan Lyon was the pick of bowlers with 4 wickets. Mitchell Starc also contributed with 2 wickets.
Australia has been struggling off late with the services of their star players David Warner and Steve Smith who are facing 12-month bans for ball tampering case which they did against South Africa this year.
In the first match at Dubai, Pakistan posted a massive 482 runs in the first innings. In reply, Australia was bowled out for 202. In their second innings, Pakistan declared their second innings on 181 for 6 and set a massive target of 462 runs to win. It was an outstanding batting performance by the Usman Khawaja who scored 141, Australian captain Tim Paine remaining not out on 71 and helped by Nathan Lyon scoring 5 runs off 34 balls.
