Like the first innings of first test match played at Edgbaston, Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a beauty of a delivery to dismiss England opener Cook before the close of play on the 2nd day of the 1st test match. With an epic knock of 149 by Indian captain Virat Kohli, India scored 274, giving hosts England a lead of just 13 runs.
Indian captain Virat Kohli decided to give R Ashwin the new ball in 2nd over. Before the close of play, India’s ace off-spinner just bowled a dream delivery which dipped on the middle stump drawing Cook forward and zipped past the outside edge to hit the off stump again. Cook was dismissed for 0. England ended the 2nd day on 9 for 1 with just lead of 22 runs.
In the first innings too, Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a similar delivery to Cook which the England opener could not read and went crashing into the stumps. It has been a brilliant recovery from team India on day 2 after England bowlers reduced India to 182 for 8 but Kohli showed the way and well supported by Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav.
Virat Kohli’s knock has helped India to come back strongly into the match. R Ashwin dismissed in a similar manner during the first innings. It is the 9th time R Ashwin has dismissed Cook in test matches.
R Ashwin bowled brilliantly in the first innings taking 4 for 62. The Indian bowlers need to bowl the consistent line and lengths not allowing England batsmen to score runs easily. R Ashwin will play a critical role for India during the 3rd day’s play. Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav have to bowl stump to stump.
Same batsman, same bowler, same result.
