One of the most terrific innings played in the history of IPL, Suresh Raina time and again showed why he is one of the most destructive batsmen in the biggest cricketing event of the world, the Indian Premier League.
The sensational southpaw smashed 87 off 25 against the KXIP in the 7th edition of the IPL (2014). He showed what real carnage is all about. Raina entertained the Wankhede crowd with some wonderful strokes and majestic hitting. The left-hander was indeed at his very best.
Chennai Super Kings were chasing a mammoth total of 227 in the Qualifier 2 (virtual semi-final) of the season. Something special was required from CSK’s side after Virender Sehwag’s magnificent century and that was provided by their star batsman Suresh Raina.
The southpaw’s innings featured 12 fours and 6 sixes in his 25 ball stay at the crease. His 25-ball sequence read — 4, 1, 4, 4, 0, 6, 4, 0, 4, 4, 0, 4, 6, 0, 6, 6, 1, 1, 6, 6, 4, 4, 4, 4 and 4.
CSK were off to a dream start. They smashed 100 inside powerplay overs. Raina was heading towards the record of fastest century in cricket history but unfortunately he was run-out and CSK’s chances of reaching the finals diminished gradually.
Raina’s heroics in the big match went all in vain. KXIP stalled CSK’s momentum after he was out in the seventh over and went on to win the match by 24 runs.
