Shoaib Akhtar criticizes AB de Villiers of choosing money over the in the ongoing World Cup 2019 played in England and Wales, South Africa are in trouble losing 3 out of 3 matches so far.
It has been a disappointing performance so far by the Proteas who have been beaten the hosts England by 104 runs in the opening match of World Cup at Oval, London on 30th May. South Africa lost their second match to Bangladesh by 21 runs.
In the third match against India at Southampton, the Proteas were defeated by 6 wickets. With 3 losses from 3, the South African team is under pressure to win remaining matches to stand a chance to qualify for the semi-finals.

AB de Villiers retired from international cricket in May 2018. After South Africa third loss to India, AB de Villiers tried to make into the World Cup squad, but the management said no. The 360-degree player from South Africa played in Indian Premier League season 12 and Pakistan Super League.
Shoaib Akhtar in his Youtube channel said, that he had the pressure of playing in the IPL and PSL. But AB de Villiers decided to play in IPL and PSL. After a narrow loss to New Zealand in the semi-finals of 2015 World Cup played in Australia and New Zealand, AB de Villiers was the captain of South African side.
Before the 2019 World Cup, AB de Villiers decided to announce international retirement. Shoaib Akhtar said that the former captain decided to choose money over the country. South Africa have never won a major ICC tournament.
Akhtar said that “he did it looking at his finances and economics before making to the decision to retire from international cricket and decided to play in IPL.”
Shoaib Akhtar said that making the money is ok but should be done in the right way. According to him, if you indeed make money, your priority should be the country.
South Africa is currently struggling now with the way they are playing. Without AB de Villiers, the Proteas are looking weak with the bat.
“He said the revelation of retirement serious question. He also said that he should have remembered that his country needs him. Akhtar also said that money will come today or tomorrow, but playing for the country can”t be ignored”.
