Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh had a forgettable outing in the opening game of the Global T20 Canada tournament. The southpaw, known for his sublime stroke-play, looked indifferent while he was out in the middle. Leading Toronto Nationals, Yuvraj scored 14 runs off 27 deliveries.

Not an ideal start for Yuvraj Singh

He was dismissed by Rizwan Cheema, though, replays showed that the batter was well inside the crease after getting a mild edge before the wicket-keeper popped it out- straight onto the stumps.

Earlier in the day, Vancouver Knights won the toss and elected to field. At 52/2, Yuvraj occupied the crease after the dismissal of Callum MacLeod- who hit a 23-ball 17. The ex-Indian middle-order batsman failed to hit a single boundary and was struggling to get bat to ball.

Klassen”s touch, Pollard”s finish went in vain

Apart from opener Rodrigo Thomas and Henry Klassen, no other batter made a fruitful contribution to the team total. Rodrigo hit a 31-ball 41 while Klaasen remained unbeaten on 41* off 20 deliveries. A 13-ball cameo from Kieron Pollard helped Toronto get to 159/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 160 to seal a victory, the Vancouver Knights didn”t get off to an ideal start. TP Visee went back scoring 20 and legendary opener Chris Gayle was undone on 12. But an unbeaten 126-run stand between CAK Walton and Van der Dussen got them home with 16 balls to spare.

Flamboyant Yuvraj called time on his stellar career

Last month, Yuvraj had announced his retirement from international cricket. This was his first outing since he hanged up his boots. Known as a fighter, fans would expect Yuvraj to make a strong comeback in the ongoing league. He had earlier said “This game taught me how to fight, how to fall, to dust myself off and get up again and move forward. I have failed more times than I have succeeded, but I never gave up, and will never give up, till my last breath, and that”s what cricket has taught me. I gave my blood and sweat to the game once I got on to it, especially when it came to representing my country.”

In the next game of the league, Montreal Tigers will take on the Winnipeg Hawks. The tournament promises to be an exciting one with so many hard-hitting batters and reputed bowlers gracing the event.
