Batting star Virat Kohli and India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma are expected to be included in the India A squad for the upcoming three 50-over matches against Australia A. The series of unofficial ODIs is set to take place at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on September 30, October 3, and October 5.

As reported by the Hindustan Times on Sunday (September 7), both Kohli and Rohit are likely selections for these matches. Having retired from Test cricket in May 2025, neither has played a competitive game since the end of IPL 2025. Reports also suggest that Kohli may travel to India this month and could undergo fitness assessments in Bengaluru.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma last represented India on March 9, 2025, in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai. In that match, Rohit scored 76 runs off 83 balls while opening the innings in India’s 252-run chase and earned the Player of the Match award.

Kohli had earlier scored 84 runs from 98 balls against Australia in the first semifinal on March 4 and remained unbeaten on 100 runs from 111 balls against Pakistan in Dubai on February 23. On both occasions, the 36-year-old right-handed batsman was named Player of the Match.

Featuring for India A would also give Kohli and Rohit valuable preparation ahead of India’s three-match ODI series in Australia.
