Indian skipper Virat Kohli has backed his deputy Ajinkya Rahane to come good in the rest of the test matches after he failed to get runs in both the innings of the first Test in Chennai. He scored 1 and 0 in the two innings which is why he is facing the heat from the Indian fans. Meanwhile, beating India in Chennai, England have topped the WTC points table with 442 points (70.02), while India have dropped down to the fourth position (68.3) below New Zealand and Australia.

Meanwhile, addressing the virtual post-match presser Virat Kohli said that Ajinkya Rahane is the most important member of the Test side alongside Cheteshwar Pujara and that as a skipper he backs his abilities.

Ajinkya Rahane Is An Impact Player: Virat Kohli

“Ajinkya Rahane is, I have said this many times in the past as well, along with Cheteshwar Pujara is our most important Test batsman and he is going to continue to be. We believe in his abilities, we have believed in his abilities for a long time now. He is an impact player” said Virat Kohli on Ajinkya Rahane.

Reminding the reporters of Rahane’s matchwinning ton in the MCG Test, Virat said urged them to put this particular failure from Rahane aside. While he got a beauty from James Anderson in the second innings, Rahane was rather unlucky to be caught by Joe Root in the covers.

There is just one test, two innings. Today, yes, you can put that innings aside. In the first innings, he wanted to score a boundary. It was a brilliant catch by Joe Root that got rid of him. If that had gone for a boundary and he had scored runs, we are not having this conversation. There are absolutely no issues. Everyone is playing well, we need to execute better. Understand the conditions better, nothing is given in Test cricket and play well as a team. That’s our focus,” Kohli said.

Ajinkya Rahane has had a string of low scores ever since scoring his matchwinning ton in the MCG Test against Australia. He has scored 4, 22, 24, 37, 1 and 0 in the longest format of the game in his last six innings.
