Virat Kohli will be aiming to make a statement with the bat in the second Test match at Chennai against England. Kohli is on the verge of going past Steve Smith’s tally of runs in Test cricket. Kohli has a chance to go at the second spot in terms of runs of the fab 4 in Test matches.
The Indian captain currently has 7401 runs in 149 innings in Tests and is behind Joe Root and Steve Smith. However, if Kohli scores another 139 runs in the second Test he will go ahead of Steve Smith who has 7540 runs in 77 matches in the longest format of the game.
Virat Kohli On The Cusp Of Going Past Steve Smith In The 2nd Test
The England captain Joe Root who is currently in the form of his life has the most Test runs for batsmen who are part of the fab-four. Root smashed a double century in his 100th Test and led England to a famous Test victory in Chennai.  The England captain has scored 8507 runs at 50.33 with 21 centuries.
Apart from him Kane Williamson who is also part of the fab 4 has 7115 runs in 83 Test matches and is currently the number 1 ranked ICC Test batsman. Has far as Test centuries are concerned both Kohli and Smith have 27 tons whereas Williamson and Root have 24 and 20 hundred respectively.
Meanwhile, the focus will be on Kohli as India will be keen to bounce back after losing in the first Test. The India captain will also improve his ranking if he is able to play a big knock in the upcoming Test match. The 32-year-old was the best Indian batsman in the second innings as he scored a fine half-century on a challenging day 5 wicket. If Kohli goes past Smith he is likely to stay ahead of him for a long time as Australia is not scheduled to play a Test match for the next 10 months.

Furthermore, India will play at least 8 more Tests this year while England will play at least 10 more Tests in 2020. New Zealand, who have qualified for the ICC Test Championship final, are confirmed to play 3 more Tests in the next five months.
