Former India captain Virat Kohli will have a shot at achieving another record when they lock horns with West Indies in the 2nd ODI on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Meanwhile, India currently lead the series 1-0 after beating Kieron Pollard & Co by six wickets in the series-opener.

So far, Kohli has played 258 ODIs for the two-time world champions. With his 259th ODI appearance for Team India, arguably the greatest batsman of the current generation, will also complete a unique century in the 50-over format at home.

Virat Kohli will be playing his 100th ODI at home on Wednesday. Kohli’s 100th ODI appearance on home soil will make him the 36th cricketer to achieve the special feat in the 50-over format.

Thus, Kohli is set to join icons Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Mohammed Azharuddin, and Yuvraj Singh in an elite list. Kohli will become the fifth Indian to play 100 ODIs at home after celebrated cricketers Tendulkar (164 matches), Dhoni (127), Azharuddin (113), and Yuvraj (108 matches).

Meanwhile, speaking of his performance, Kohli had a poor outing in the first game and will hope to return to his best shortly. The 33-year-old prolific run-scorer has been chasing his usual best since November 2019.

The former Indian captain Gavaskar lashed out at media reports which have over the past mentioned about rumoured rifts between the two veteran cricketers. He further hailed the two players for remaining unfazed amid the outside noise, opining that it is probably because they know what the truth is.

“Why wouldn’t they be getting along? They are playing for India. All these talks that you generally hear about two players not gelling and etc. are all speculations. According to reliable sources or allegedly or reportedly.”

“Nobody actually tells you and this has been happening for a years. And these guys don’t even bother about it. You wouldn’t even bother about these kind of speculations because you yourself know what the truth is. And so there is nothing,” he told Star Sports.
