Former India cricketer Karsan Ghavri feels Virat Kohli has to prove his form in the ongoing series against England. The right-handed batter has been struggling for form over the last couple of years. He has not been able to convert his start into substantial scores. In the recent Test match against England, Kohli failed to make an impact in both innings.

The 34-year-old averages 28.73 this year across formats, with just four fifties to his name in international cricket. With the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in sight, his form has become a cause of concern. As per reports, the Indian management is not sure of the former skipper’s place in the T20I squad for the mega-event.

In a conversation with Jagran, former India cricketer Karsan Ghavri expressed that Kohli needs to look at his dismissal and improve. He added that the veteran India batter needs to cut down on his shots, and take time to get settled at the crease. Karsan Ghavri said,

“Virat Kohli is such a great player for India. Unfortunately for the last two years, we have seen him getting caught behind or caught in the slips while chasing the delivery outside the off stump. He has to look at this and improve. He has to restrict those shots because if he keeps going like this and getting out and not getting runs, there comes a question mark – why is he not scoring?”

Virat Kohli has to perform and score runs: Karsan Ghavri

Virat Kohli was rested for the first T20I against England. He will be back in the team for the next two matches. Former India cricketer Karsan Ghavri believes Virat Kohli still has the hunger to score runs. However, he added that his form has been disappointing. Karsan Ghavri stated that Virat Kohli cannot keep playing on his past performances.

“He has to prove his form in the current series. These days you can’t play for long riding on your name. Virat is a great player but only his name will not work. He has to perform and score runs. This is how it goes. Everybody understands that he is going through a rough patch and it happens with every player. He has the hunger for runs, hunger for success in his heart but his personal form is quite disappointing,” Ghavri added.
