Virat Kohli Set To Rewrite ODI History Down Under

Virat Kohli is all set to make a strong comeback in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on October 19. The Indian legend, who last featured in the 2025 Champions Trophy, will don the Indian jersey once again. As he prepares to return to the field, several records await him in this highly anticipated series. Here are five major milestones that Kohli could reach in the AUS vs IND 2025 ODIs.

1. Third Player To Cross 1500 Boundaries In ODIs

Virat Kohli is on the verge of entering an elite list in ODI cricket. He could become only the third player ever to score more than 1500 boundaries in the format. If he achieves this, Kohli will join legendary cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya, who are currently the only players to have crossed this remarkable milestone. This record would further highlight Kohli’s consistency and dominance as one of the most complete ODI batsmen of all time.

2. Most Centuries In A Single Format

Currently, Virat Kohli has 51 centuries in ODIs—the joint-highest by any player in the history of the format. He shares this record with Sachin Tendulkar, who also scored 51 hundreds but in Test cricket. If Kohli manages to hit just one more century during the three ODIs in Australia, he will surpass Tendulkar and become the player with the most centuries in a single format of international cricket. This achievement would make him stand alone at the top as the most prolific century-maker in world cricket.

3. Most Runs In White-Ball Cricket (ODIs And T20Is Combined)

Kohli’s record in white-ball cricket has been nothing short of exceptional. He has scored 14,181 runs in ODIs and 4,188 runs in T20Is, giving him a combined total of 18,369 runs in limited-overs internationals. He is now just 68 runs short of overtaking Sachin Tendulkar, who holds the record for the most runs in white-ball formats with 18,436 runs (18,426 in ODIs and 10 in T20Is). If Kohli crosses this mark, he will become the leading run-scorer in the history of white-ball cricket.

4. Second-Highest Run-Scorer In ODIs

In ODIs, Kohli has scored 14,181 runs from 302 matches, averaging an incredible 57.88 with 51 centuries and 74 fifties. He currently stands third on the all-time list of ODI run-getters. The only player ahead of him besides Sachin Tendulkar is Kumar Sangakkara, who has 14,234 runs from 404 matches. Kohli needs just 54 more runs to overtake Sangakkara and claim the second spot. If he achieves this, he will further cement his place among the greatest ODI batsmen in history.

5. Strengthening His Legacy

Beyond the numbers, these milestones will add to Kohli’s remarkable cricketing journey. Returning to the field after months, his performance in the Australia series will not only shape India’s campaign but also define another chapter in his legendary career. Fans across the world will be watching closely as Kohli continues his pursuit of greatness in the 2025 ODIs.
