Star Indian batter Virat Kohli achieved a significant milestone during the ongoing 2025 Champions Trophy clash between India and Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, February 23. Kohli took a crucial catch in the 47th over, dismissing Naseem Shah off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling.
Naseem lofted the ball towards long-on, where Kohli sprinted in from the deep to complete a low catch, marking Pakistan’s eighth wicket. With this catch, Kohli set a new record for the most catches by an Indian fielder in ODIs.
He now has 157 catches in the format, surpassing former captain Mohammad Azharuddin, who previously held the record with 156 catches. Other Indian players in the top five of this list include Sachin Tendulkar with 140 catches, Rahul Dravid with 124, and Suresh Raina with 102.

Virat Kohli ranks third for most catches by a fielder in ODIs
Virat Kohli has surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin to become India’s leading fielder in ODI catches and now ranks third overall with 157 catches. The former Indian captain trails only Mahela Jayawardene and Ricky Ponting on the all-time list.
Jayawardene leads with 218 catches, while Australian legend Ricky Ponting follows with 160, placing Kohli in third. Beyond his batting prowess, he has cemented his place as one of the finest fielders, not just in India but worldwide.

Mohammad Azharuddin now sits fourth on the list with 156 catches, while former New Zealand star Ross Taylor holds the fifth spot with 142 catches in ODI cricket. Kohli has also amassed 551 runs in Champions Trophy history, making him the highest run-scorer among current Indian players in the tournament.
As India gears up to chase 242 against Pakistan in their ongoing match in Dubai, the right-hander will be eager to build on his tally and produce a match-winning performance with the bat.
