Virat Kohli, one of the most popular sportsperson in Asia and globally recently talked about what broadcasters are doing wrong. Kohli wasn’t demeaning in his remarks, but rather came with the perspective of sharing insights. At the RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) Unbox event, talking to English media presenter and former cricketer, Isha Guha, Kohli said that broadcasters need to talk about what an athlete is going through rather than show what he/she is eating.
Virat Kohli said, “A broadcast show needs to talk about the game and not what I ate yesterday for lunch or my favourite chole-bhature place in Delhi. You can’t have that in cricket matches. Rather, you could talk about what an athlete is going through.”
Virat Kohli Says There is Need for Education
“We are working towards India becoming a sports-forward nation. We have the vision. We have the groundwork happening today. It should be a collective responsibility of everyone involved. It’s not just about the infrastructure or the people who infuse the money. It’s also about the people who watch. We need education,” said Kohli.
Earlier this year, after the Australia test series, before the ODI (One Day Internationals) started with England, Virat Kohli appeared for Delhi to play in the Ranji Trophy. Virat was back in the Delhi whites after an extremely long time, and thus, the attention of the media as well as the cricket fans was on the game.
During the match, the broadcasters had focused on what Virat was eating in the dressing room or rather where the food was ordered from. Instances like this showcase that there’s need for better assessment of what’s broadcasted to the audience and what’s not. For India to become a sports-forward nation, better education and right priorities must be set, signalled Kohli.
