It was yet another disappointing season for Royal Challengers Bangalore as they failed to win the IPL trophy in Indian Premier League 2020. Despite having the team year after year, RCB has not been able to fulfil its promise and win the much-coveted IPL title.
They lost to SRH to bow out of the tournament. Soon after there were discussions of removing Virat Kohli as RCB skipper, ahead of next season. However former Indian opener Virender Sehwag feels that Virat Should not be sacked as the RCB skipper.
Virat Kohli Should Not be Sacked as RCB skipper – Virender Sehwag
Talking to Cricbuzz Live, Virender Sehwag said that a captain is only as good as the team. So therefore if the whole team is not performing, sacking the captain is not the only solution for the problem to be solved. The former India opener stated that the Bangalore team needs to change instead of sacking Kohli.
“A captain is only as good as his team. When Virat Kohli captains India, he is able to deliver the results. He wins matches – ODIs, T20Is Tests. But when he captains RCB, his team is not able to perform,” Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

Virender Sehwag further said that its important for a captain to have a good team with the players performing. Therefore Sehwag urged the team management to think of ways to win and play better cricket instead of sacking captain Virat Kohli.
“It is very important for the captain to have a good team. So, I believe the management should not try and think of changing their captain and rather think of how they can improve this team. Who all should be added to the team to make sure their performance improves?” Sehwag further added.
Earlier after RCB’s ouster from IPL 2020, former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir was in favour of removing Virat Kohli as the skipper of his team. He drew reference of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni to state that Kohli needs to be accountable for RCB’s dismal run.
“Eight years is a long, long time. Look at what happened to R Ashwin. Two years of captaincy [for the Kings XI Punjab], he couldn’t deliver and he was removed. We talk about MS Dhoni, we talk about Rohit Sharma, we talk about Virat Kohli…not at all” said Gambhir.
