Virat Kohli has addressed the tragic stampede that occurred during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) IPL 2025 celebrations, which claimed the lives of 11 fans and left several others injured outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The unfortunate incident took place just a day after RCB secured their maiden IPL title. Speaking about it, Kohli expressed his sorrow, noting how the team’s moment of joy was overshadowed by a heartbreaking tragedy.
“Nothing in life really prepares you for a heartbreak like June 4th. What should’ve been the happiest moment in our franchise’s history… turned into something tragic,” he said. (via RCB)

“I’ve been thinking of and praying for the families of those we lost… and for our fans who were injured. Your loss is part of our story now. Together, we will move forward with care, respect and responsibility,” he added.
RCB announced a ₹25 lakh compensation for the families of each victim. In addition, the franchise introduced ‘RCB Cares’, a six-point initiative aimed at supporting and empowering its fans.

Virat Kohli has long been the backbone of RCB’s batting lineup, and he delivered yet another stellar season in IPL 2025. The senior star played a crucial role in guiding the team to their maiden IPL title, finishing as RCB’s top run-scorer with 657 runs from 15 innings at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71.
Kohli’s consistency shone through as he notched eight half-centuries during the tournament. He also led the scoring in the final, contributing 43 runs off 35 balls to help Bengaluru post 190/9 against Punjab Kings (PBKS), before the bowlers defended the total and restricted PBKS to 184/7.
Having been with the franchise since its inaugural season in 2008, Kohli has accumulated 8,661 runs from 267 IPL matches, including eight centuries and 63 half-centuries. He remains both RCB’s and the IPL’s all-time leading run-scorer.
