Team India’s star batter Virat Kohli has moved past ODI captain Shubman Gill to secure the fourth position in the latest ICC Batting Rankings ahead of the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. Kohli’s surge came after he notched his 52nd ODI century in the series opener at Ranchi, boosting his rating to 751 and overtaking the sidelined Gill.
Following a challenging tour of Australia, Virat Kohli showcased his class on home soil, scoring a brilliant 135 off 120 balls to help India clinch a 17-run victory over the Proteas. His innings, which included seven sixes, reaffirmed his dominance and sent a strong message amid ongoing discussions about his future.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill’s ranking took a hit after a tough Australian series where he managed only 43 runs across three innings. His situation was further complicated by a neck injury sustained during the two-match Test series, ruling him out of the ongoing ODI series against South Africa.
Team India’s stand-in captain and wicket-keeper, KL Rahul, has climbed two places to 14th in the ICC rankings following his vital fifty in the first ODI. Batting at No.6, he scored 60 runs off 56 balls, playing a key finishing role to help India reach 349-8 in their innings.
Rohit Sharma Retains No.1 Spot After Fifty In 1st ODI vs South Africa
Rohit Sharma continues to solidify his position at the top of the rankings, recently becoming the oldest player to hold the No.1 spot. The Hitman carried his impressive form from the Australia tour into the home season, hitting a vital fifty in the first ODI at Ranchi before departing in unfortunate circumstances.
Currently, Rohit has a rating of 783, holding a narrow advantage over New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell in second place. Though he was briefly displaced from the top, he quickly regained his position. At present, he is batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second ODI against South Africa after India were once again sent in to bat.
