Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has shared his thoughts on Team India’s playing XI for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He feels that veteran batter Virat Kohli will bat at his usual position of number three in the batting line-up for India at the World Cup. The mega-event is all set to take place in Australia, starting from October 16.
During a session of the ‘CricChat show’ on the Sharechat app, the former India cricketer expressed that KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma will open the innings for India. He added that the likes of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan can also contribute to the squad. Wasim Jaffer was also impressed with India’s aggressive approach in the T20 format.
“Virat will remain in his original No. 3 place in the team. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma should open. Other players like Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan can contribute significantly to the squad. I feel that the aggressive approach that India has undertaken is very nice to witness. India’s chances of winning (T20 World Cup) are bright,” said Jaffer.
You must change and adapt to the format, or you will cease to exist: Wasim Jaffer
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer also spoke about the hectic cricketing calender and playing different formats. He expressed that a player has to change and adapt according to the formats, to be relevant. Jaffer further cited the example of Cheteshwar Pujara, who plays only red-ball cricket for India.
“Fitting in all three formats of cricket would have been exceedingly tough (ODI, T20, and Test). You must change and adapt to the format, or you will cease to exist. Despite my high esteem for players like Cheteshwar Pujara, one cannot play like him in this era. You’ll merely play Test cricket, which is also not guaranteed,” said Wasim Jaffer.
The former cricketer was asked about having a biopic on his life and playing career in the future. He stated that he would love to see Vicky Kaushal playing his character.
“I would want Yograj Singh to portray Chandrakant Pandit and Vicky Kaushal to play my character,” said Wasim Jaffer.
