Virat Kohli’s Nephew and Sehwag’s Sons Attract Big Bids At Delhi Premier League 2025 Auction

The Delhi Premier League 2025 auction took place on Sunday, July 6, with some notable young names attracting attention. Among the players sold were Aryaveer, the 15-year-old nephew of former India captain Virat Kohli, and Aryavir and Vedant, the sons of legendary opener Virender Sehwag.

Aryaveer, a promising leg-spinner, was picked up by South Delhi Superstarz for ₹1 lakh. Sehwag’s elder son Aryavir, an opening batter aged 18, secured a ₹8 lakh deal with Central Delhi Kings, while his younger son Vedant, an off-spinner, was bought by West Delhi Lions for ₹4 lakh.

The inaugural edition of the tournament took place in 2024, with North Delhi Strikers emerging as champions after a narrow three-run win over South Delhi Superstarz in the final. That season featured six teams, but the 2025 edition has expanded to eight with the addition of Outer Delhi Warriors and New Delhi Tigers ahead of the auction.

For the 2025 men’s auction, each franchise had a budget of ₹1.50 crore. Teams were allowed to retain one player prior to the auction and had access to one Right to Match (RTM) card each, though the RTM option couldn’t be used for marquee players.

Simarjeet Singh topped the bids at the 2025 DPL auction

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Simarjeet Singh became the most expensive player at the Delhi Premier League 2025 auction, bought by Central Delhi Kings for ₹39 lakh. He played four matches for SRH in IPL 2025, taking two wickets with an economy of 14.10.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi also attracted high bids. South Delhi Superstarz re-signed him for ₹38 lakh. A breakout performer in IPL 2025, Rathi claimed 14 wickets in 13 matches at an economy of 8.25, finishing as LSG’s top wicket-taker.

Other key signings included Nitish Rana (West Delhi Lions – ₹34 lakh), Prince Yadav (New Delhi Tigers – ₹33 lakh), Yash Dhull (Central Delhi Kings – ₹15 lakh), Navdeep Saini (East Delhi Riders – ₹10 lakh), and Lalit Yadav (Purani Dilli 6 – ₹10 lakh).
