The ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia later this year promises to be bigger and better. With all the participating team aiming to make it big in the T20 blitz, legendary batsman from India, Virender Sehwag has revealed his contender who can emerge as champions at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
With many sporting events called-off in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, there was a doubt over the future of the ICC T20 World Cup. But Cricket Australia and the ICC assured that the tournament is still on and would take place as scheduled. As of now, one can only hope that things improve in the coming days and the much-awaited T20 World Cup is not affected by the pandemic.
Recently, Virender Sehwag was asked to pick a side who are the favourites. In reply, the legendary batsman refused to pick a favourite but subtly hinted that India could go all the way due to the return of the dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The Nawab of Najafgarh believes that the allrounder’s return could change the dimension of the Indian team.
“In T20s, one cannot predict favourites. Such is the unpredictable nature of the format, any single player can change the complexion of the game on a given day,” he said. “The return of Hardik Pandya will make a huge difference to the Indian team. The whole combination will change with an all-rounder of the calibre of Hardik,” he added.
The main 12-team competition is set to kick off with a match between Australia and Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground and then India versus South Africa at Perth Stadium on October 24 with the final on November 15 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
