Kings XI Punjab have struggled to get going in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They are currently placed in the last in the points table with only two points. Glenn Maxwell’s poor form has piled on their agony, who was recently slammed by former India opener Virender Sehwag.

Meanwhile, Maxwell has always earned a big purse in IPL. Glenn Maxwell was bought for INR 10.75 crore ahead of the IPL 2020 by KXIP while Delhi Capitals shelled INR 9 crore in IPL 2018. However, his return inside the ground has not been noteworthy at all.

Virender Sehwag slams Glenn Maxwell

Kings XI Punjab had high expectation from Maxwell following his excellent run during Australia’s limited-overs tour of England. But Glenn Maxwell has managed scores of 13, 11, 11, and 7 despite his side’s backing. In the wake of this, Virender Sehwag has slammed the Aussie cricketer saying that this has been the same story with Maxwell every year.

“Don’t know what sort of a platform Glenn Maxwell needs to explode. He came in early (against Sunrisers Hyderabad) after Punjab lost two batsmen quickly. A lot of overs were left this time, but he failed. Earlier, he didn’t have pressure (batting in the death overs in previous matches), yet he got out without performing,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

Furthermore, former Kings XI Punjab coach Virender Sehwag stated that he doesn’t understand the thought process of the management. Despite failing consistently, Glenn Maxwell has earned a heavy sum, which stuns Sehwag.

“I can’t quite understand his mindset because it’s been the same story every year. He gets sold in the auction for a hefty price but the result remains the same. Yet, people (franchises) run after him. This is something I don’t understand,” Virender Sehwag added.

Kings XI Punjab might be prompted to drop Glenn Maxwell and bring in Chris Gayle as they look for the much-needed win. They face Kolkata Knight Riders next on October 10 (Saturday).
