Former Team India opener Virender Sehwag took a dig at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Eoin Morgan after his recent war of words with Ravichandran Ashwin on Tuesday during KKR’s game against Delhi Capitals.
The altercation happened when Ashwin tried to take a run after a throw ricocheted off DC captain Rishabh Pant. Eoin Morgan protested against the run and got into a heated exchange with the Ravichandran Ashwin.
Reacting to the same, Virender Sehwag took a dig at Eoin Morgan highlighting his role during the ICC World Cup final in 2019. Taking to Twitter, Sehwag wrote:
“On July 14th , 2019 when it ricocheted of Ben Stokes bat in the final over, Mr Morgan sat on a Dharna outside Lord’s and refused to hold the World cup trophy and New Zealand won. Haina ? Bade aaye, ‘doesn’t appreciate’ waale.”

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin had the last laugh as he dismissed Eoin Morgan and gave a fiery send-off. However, Delhi Capitals went down as Kolkata Knight Riders chased down the target convincingly.

Speaking at the virtual press conference, Dinesh Karthik opened up on the episode and revealed that the whole thing had to do with Ashwin trying to take a second run after the ball had deflected off Rishabh Pant’s bat.
“I know that Rahul Tripathi threw the ball and it hit Rishabh Pant and then it ricocheted off it and Ashwin started to run. I do not think Eoin appreciates it; he is someone when the ball hits the batter, he expects them not to run because of the spirit of cricket,” Karthik said during the post-match virtual press conference.
“It is a very grey area, a very interesting topic. I have my own opinion on it but I can just say I am happy to play peacemaker and the thing has come to a good standstill right now,” he added.Â
