Pakistan cricket team lost to Team India on Sunday, October 23 in the 2022 T20 World Cup match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Mohammad Nawaz failed to defend 16 runs off the final over, as Pakistan lost the match by four wickets. Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag expressed his thoughts about Nawaz’s final over.

The Pakistan spinner took a wicket off the first delivery, dismissing Hardik Pandya. However, he bowled a couple of wide balls in over which eased the pressure from the opposition. Virat Kohli also struck a six off a full toss, to bring the equation down. Eventually, Ashwin hit the winning runs to take India over the line.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag expressed that he would have advised Mohammad Nawaz to bowl according to his strength. He said,

“Had I been there, I would have advised him to bowl normal left-arm spin because you are going to be hit for runs, but there should be no worries. Yes, 16 runs are not less but don’t be afraid to bowl. Why are you even trying to attempt something that you have never done in your entire life with the ball in hand? Wasim Akram thodi na hai aap. Toh phir Kyun karna? (You aren’t Wasim Akram then why attempt seam-up bowling).”

The calculation was simple, I tried to stick to my instincts: Virat Kohli

Team India adopted a calculated approach against Pakistan during the chase on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Player of the Match, Virat Kohli admitted that even though, Mohammad Nawaz had one over left, the team had to take their chances against Haris Rauf. Kohli slammed Rauf for a couple of sixes, to keep India’s hopes alive in the match.

“Hardik believed we can do it if we stayed till the end. When Shaheen bowled from the pavilion end, that’s when we decided to take him down. Haris is their prime bowler, and I hit those two sixes. The calculation was simple. Nawaz had one over to the bowl, so if I could take Haris down, they would panic. From 28 in 8, it came down to 16 to 6. I tried to stick to my instincts. The first one was the back of a hand slower ball (the one over long-on),” said Virat Kohli.
