Former Pakistan pace bowler Wasim Akram has come to support Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali after his rather forgettable outing in the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-final. Wasim Akram has urged everyone not to slam Hasan Ali, as he had faced all these himself during his cricketing days.

However, Hasan Ali, who performed well before the semi-final, failed to do well in the all-important clash against Australia. He failed to take a wicket in four overs after conceding 44 runs. He then dropped an important catch off Matthew Wade in the 19th over and that certainly cost them the game as Wade smashed three consecutive sixes to take Australia to the finish line.

However, Wasim Akram backed Hasan Ali and admitted that the team and fans are very emotional right now. And, he again stated that it will be challenging for them to handle the emotion amid these circumstances as they couldn’t meet their families immediately.

“What we don’t want is that the whole country gets after poor Hasan Ali now. I have been through this, Waqar Younis has been through it. In other countries, it’s just a game for people. Next day, you say well tried, bad luck, better luck next time, and move on,” Akram said to A Sports.

“This situation is as tough for the players as it is for the fans. The players will go to their rooms, they’ll be quiet, they won’t talk to their families and the defeat will haunt them. As a nation, we don’t want to add fire to that fuel,” Wasim Akram further added.

The turning point was that dropped catch – Babar Azam

As far as the game is concerned, Pakistan posted 176 runs where both Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman smashed the fifties. While chasing, David Warner scored 49 but it was the Marcus Stoinis (40*) and Matthew Wade (41*) duo whose quickfire cameos took the team to the final.

After the loss, Babar Azam said, “I thought we scored as many runs as we had planned in the first innings. I think if we give such teams a chance in the back end, it is going to be costly. The turning point was that dropped catch. Had we taken it, the scenario could have been different. The way we gelled and played the entire tournament, I am satisfied as a captain.

“Hopefully, we’ll learn from this for the next tournament. When you play so well throughout, there were small mistakes that cost us the match in the end. We gave players roles and they executed it really well. The way the crowds supported us, we enjoyed a lot as a team. We always enjoy playing here,” he added.
