Wasim Jaffer Picks His Bowling Attack For 1st South Africa Test, Suggests An Extra Batter In Playing XI

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has picked his bowling line-up for the first Test against South Africa in Centurion. He has also said that the Indian playing XI should have an extra batter with four specialist bowlers in ythe line-up.

Jaffer has picked Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj as the three bowlers along with Ravichandran Ashwin being the specialist spinner.

Taking to Twitter Wasim Jaffer suggested that India should go with an extra batsman in the playing XI remembering the horrors of the 2018 series.

“India made 250+ only once in six innings in SA in 2018. And that’s why we lost the series despite taking 20 wickets in all 3 tests. Extra batter is a must in SA. I’d go 7+4 with Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, and Ashwin being the 4 bowlers. #SAvIND wrote Jaffer.

The former Indian opener further said that the Protean pacers will challenge India in home conditions. Barring Virat Kohli, none of the other Indian batsmen do not have too much success in South African soil. Kagiso Rabada and his teammates will exploit the conditions to their benefit in the series.

South Africa Has A Decent Bowling Attack: Wasim Jaffer

“South Africa has a decent fast bowling attack, there is no doubt (Kagiso) Rabada is one of the best. He is going to challenge the Indian batters. They have sufficient quality. Their pace bowling will definitely challenge India. But their batting is not the same it was before. Nonetheless, it will be a challenging tour for India,” he stated.

Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the Test series with an injury. Thus much of the responsibility rests on Rabada’s shoulders with Lungi Ngidi, Duanne Olivier and Marco Jansen being the other three pacers. Keshav Maharaj is the only specialist spinner in the squad.
