It’s not important where you play, but how you play: Wasim Jaffer on Shreyas Iyer’s batting position

The former India cricketer, Wasim Jaffer expressed his opinion of which position Shreyas Iyer should bat in the Indian Premier League 2022. Shreyas was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders and will lead the franchise this season. Many believe that the players should bat at the positions that they usually do for India. However, Wasim Jaffer disagrees.

Jaffer in a discussion on Espncricinfo stated that it’s not important where Shreyas Iyer bats, but how he bats. He added that the India selectors and management should be happy with Shreyas scoring runs, irrespective of the position he bats.

“I don’t think the franchises will agree to let players bat lower down as the role is for India. Shreyas Iyer even said that day that he likes to bat at No.3. I think it’s not important where you play, it’s important how you play. So, if he is batting at No.3 and scoring runs, I think the selectors and the management will be happy,” Jaffer said.

The Indian Premier League 2022 season kicks off on Saturday, March 26 with Chennai Super Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
