India lost the first Test against England in Chennai by 227 runs. In the process, they have dropped down to number four in the WTC points table while their opponents have risen to the top. This is also Virat Kohli’s fourth straight loss in Tests as skipper, his longest streak. Amidst, all this, former Indian batsmen Wasim Jaffer has asked the Indian fans to not lose faith in the Indian team saying that they will make a comeback in the series.
Taking to Twitter, Wasim Jaffer made a unique observation of the pattern in which the Indian cricket team has played Test cricket in recent times. “Don’t lose heart Indian fans. The last time India lost the first test of a series, they won the series. The last time India lost the first test of a home series, they won the series. #INDvsENG,” Jaffer tweeted.

India lost the first Test of the series against Australia in Adelaide and bounced back in style to win the last three Tests and retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Earlier in 2017 against Australia, India lost the first Test in Pune and won the last two in Dharmasala and Bengaluru to win the series 2-1. Surprisingly, both the series wins came under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane.
Ajinkya Rahane has led India in four Test matches and has won all of them. Seeing Kohli lose his first match against England, Twitter was advocating the return of Rahane back as the Indian skipper.
It was Englandâs sixth away Test win in a row and the visitors took a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. This was Joe Root‘s 26th Test win as England skipper equalling former skipper Michael Vaughan.
