A mix-up between Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell and brilliant field work resulted in Maxwell getting run out at the MCA Stadium in Pune against the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2022. The Royal Challengers Bangalore have lost their top three batters with not many runs on the board.

Glenn Maxwell walked out to bat after the fall of Faf Du Plessis’ wicket in the eighth over of the innings. Before his innings could take off, the all-rounder was run out by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In the ninth over, a Kohli stepped out of his crease to defend an away turner towards cover and set off for a run, but then stopped.

Maxwell too stopped for a bit, but, then both decided to complete the run. However, it was too late, as Robin Uthappa’s stop on throw and Dhoni’s brilliant glovework, sent Maxwell packing. The all-rounder could manage only three runs in his short stay at the crease.

Soon after Maxwell’s wicket, Virat Kohli too was sent back to the hut by Moeen Ali. Kohli tried to flick the ball but played across the line. The ball sneaked through to hit his middle and leg stump. Kohli was dismissed for thirty runs off thirty-three balls, including three fours and a six.

Earlier in the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf Du Plessis was caught by Jadeja off Moeen Ali. Du Plessis tried to smash the ball over the mid-wicket region but was caught in the deep by Jadeja for 38 runs off 22 balls.

We want to be more consistent: MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first. At the toss ceremony, the wicket-keeper expressed that the team wants to be more consistent in building partnerships at the crease. Chennai is placed ninth on the points table, with three wins in nine matches.

“We have had good partnerships and we want to be more consistent with it every game and try to keep the big overs away with the ball. We have given away big overs when we have bowled. So those are the two areas we would like to work on. Everybody who plays cricket knows that we have to improve our catching,” Dhoni said.
