Watch- Aakash Chopra Praises Danushka Gunathilaka; He Gets Out On The Next Ball

Right arm pacer Mohammed Siraj bowled the first over with the new ball today for Team India, in the 3rd T20I against Sri Lanka at Dharamsala. Siraj started with four dot balls and on the fifth ball, Pathum Nissanka managed to take a single and give strike to Danushka Gunathilaka.

As Gunathilaka prepared to face his first delivery of the match, on-air Hindi commentator Aakash Chopra reminded the fans about his ability to play the Pull shot. He said:  “Gunathilaka, pull acha lagate hai ye” (Gunathilaka plays the Pull Shot really well).

However, the Sri Lankan opener got dismissed just a few seconds later, playing the same pull-shot that Chopra was praising him for. In an attempt to play the shot, Gunathilaka got an inside edge, and the ball crashed into the stumps. Chopra’s remarks hilariously functioned like a ‘Commentator’s Curse’ for Gunathilaka who got out for a golden duck.

When the commentators laud a batter who is playing well and he suddenly gets out, or when a superb fielder misses an easy catch, these are some examples of a ‘Commentator’s Curse.’

Domestic tournaments will never have parity with IPL: Aakash Chopra

Meanwhile during a Q&A session on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra shared his thoughts on why the Indian Premier League (IPL) is given priority over the Ranji Trophy. Chopra opined that as long as the domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy are being properly conducted, there should be no problem with the IPL (which is a global competition) getting more limelight.

“It’s (IPL) not overpowering it (Ranji), but it’s going to happen. Because not only does it come on TV, but it’s a global tournament. And just look at the value. Players from all over the world come here. The auction has more ratings than a lot of matches. But are we ignoring domestic cricket? If the Ranji Trophy wasn’t happening this year, I’d have agreed, but it is happening. As long as domestic tournaments are being held and given their due importance, it’s fine. But they’ll never have parity with IPL.”, said Chopra.
