[WATCH]- Ajinkya Rahane Executes An Impressive Reverse Sweep During His Debut For Leicestershire

On July 24, 2024, Team India batsman Ajinkya Rahane started his Leicestershire run with flair, accumulating a splendid 71 from 60 balls when playing for the One Day Cup against Nottinghamshire in England. After passing fifty, the 36-year-old even managed an unusual reverse-sweep shot against Liam Patterson-White who is a left-arm spinner.

Rahane’s performances included 9 boundaries, most of which were scored off his favourite straight bat shots or backfoot drives. This enabled Leicestershire to amass 369 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in just 50 overs until finally he was dismissed in the 48th over.

The victorious champions of last year’s One Day Cup, Leicestershire, are the reigning title holders. Ajinkya Rahane is going to represent the county side in the complete One Day cup and the last five matches for the Division cricket season match of title two. He was meant to play for Leicestershire last year but could not participate because he had to fulfil other obligations related to his home country

In the meantime, Leicestershire’s two other batsmen were Soloman Budinger and Lewis Hill who both made half-centuries in their fervent innings that were characterized by high octane play. After setting a target of 370 runs, the bowlers began this match with great composure as they restricted Notts to just 41 runs for no loss after eight overs.

“I derive great pleasure from playing in England”- Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane on July 23 joined Leicestershire team where he spoke about challenges of playing in English conditions. The 36-year-old has mixed results with the willow averaging 31.29 in 27 outings across formats in England. However, arguably his best knock for India came on English soil when he scored a defiant 103 on a green pitch during India’s famous win at Lord’s in 2014.

“I really enjoy playing in England. Have always thought it is the best conditions for any cricketer as it keeps you humble, keeps you grounded as conditions change very qucikly so you’ve to adapt and to the different sitiuations and be flexible in your mindset.”

“As a cricketer I have always felt whenever you leave England, you learn something or the other and go as an improved cricketer,” said Rahane to the Foxes TV YouTube channel.

Rahane also scored for the Indian team 9 wicket victory at Edgbaston in an ODI century during the same tour of 2014. The champion batter has amassed more than 8000 international runs and 26000 domestic runs in his illustrious career.
