Joe Root made his intentions clear to Australia, and captain Pat Cummins had to change his field to prevent the former England captain from causing more harm.

In the ongoing first Ashes Test against Australia at Edgbaston, England was led by Joe Root on Day 4.

Root, however, didn’t waste any time getting going as he hit two consecutive boundaries in the second over of the day. Off consecutive deliveries, Root ramped Scoot Boland for a six followed by a four.

In a total of 386 runs, the lower-order batsman contributed a useful 38. He leaves Australia’s first-innings deficit at just seven runs. The fast bowler then dismissed Ben Duckett, and in a dramatic 20-minute period of play in between showers. England also lost their other opener, Zak Crawley.

The Australian captain struck first on Day 4 by ripping Ollie Pope’s off-stump apart with a vicious yorker. Robinson put an end to the innings when he had Cummins caught by Stokes in the deep after the final four Australian wickets fell for just 14 runs in 23 balls.
