Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by five wickets in the 44th match of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This win was a much-needed win for the five-time champions after losing the first eight consecutive games. It certainly gave relief to Rohit Sharma and Co.

While chasing the target of 159 runs set by the Royals, Mumbai got off to a poor start. They lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma in the 3rd over. Rohit could manage to score only two runs in five balls before he miscued a sweep shot on the bowling of Ashwin.

It was also the birthday of Rohit Sharma. However, he couldn’t make his birthday a special one with the bat. Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika looked devastated after Rohit’s dismissal. Ashwin’s wife Prithi was also sitting at the same stand like her. She went to Ritika and gave her a warm hug to console her.

Rohit Sharma has been in poor form in IPL 2022. He has managed to score just 155 runs in 9 matches in IPL 2022 at a strike rate of 125. These numbers are very poor for the expectations which fans have from Rohit Sharma. He has also struggled to score even a single fifty-plus score in the first 9 matches of IPL 2022.

Surya Kumar guides Mumbai to their first victory in IPL 2022

After losing Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan cheaply, the onus was once again on Suryakumar Yadav to bail the side out of danger. The Mumbai batter played an amazing knock of 51 runs on a dual paced pitch to steer the run chase.

He formed a partnership with Tilak Verma to take Mumbai Indians closer to victory. In the end, Tim David hit a few long ones to help Mumbai safely cross the finishing line. Everyone in the MI camp was cheerful after the first win. Ishan Kishan too expressed his happiness.

“It does (victory means a lot), because it’s not an easy time for us. We need to stick together as a team. We didn’t win matches earlier, but loved the effort put by the team today. You will lose wickets, you will score runs, such things happen in cricket. The intent from every batter was to finish the game. Hopefully we win a few more matches in the upcoming games” said Ishan Kishan after the win.
