Axar Patel, the Delhi Capitals team captain, revealed in an interview his relationship with former captain MS Dhoni of India. In the video that was released via the Delhi Capitals, Axar said that he has a close tie with a guy he loves, calling him “Mahi bhai”.

He said that during Dhoni’s captaincy, he used to have his thoughts shared with him and, after the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy, received a message from him as well.

MS Dhoni, popularly known as “Captain Cool”, is famous not only for his superlative achievements on the field but also for possessing great man management skills and qualities that he uses in his leadership. This career, full of ICC and individual trophies along with more tale to tell, would leave behind a cadre of records.

Axar Patel, who has even called himself an MS Dhoni fan, often tends to give credit to Dhoni for making him what he is by nurturing him. A recent video featuring Axar Patel on how he remembers Dhoni is doing rounds among cricket-loving people. In the video, Patel explains how such a guiding figure has helped him grow, portraying the eternal influence of Dhoni in cricket.

In this video we can hear Axar say, “I have a very good relationship with Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni). We have shared the dressing room, and I asked him how to improve my game.” Patel shared that he got a message from his idol before the World Cup and the Champions Trophy as well. Patel, later in the conversation, said with a giggle, ‘He (MS Dhoni) told me that sometimes my deliveries hit the right spot on the deck, sometimes not. So Dhoni advised me for some vidhi idhi (ritual)”.

He further added, “It was my first meeting with Mahi bhai. But before I could say anything, he said to me, ‘Bapu, tu aaya aur mujhe le gaya’.”
