Senior Pakistani batsman Babar Azam displayed clear frustration during a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 match on January 27, engaging in a heated argument with the opposing team’s wicketkeeper. Representing Rangpur Riders in BPL 2024, Babar faced Durdanto Dhaka in the 12th match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The Riders, after losing the toss, were tasked with batting first.

While at the crease, opening batsman Babar engaged in a heated verbal exchange with Durdanto Dhaka’s wicketkeeper, Irfan Sukkur. In the widely circulated video, Dhaka cricketer Mohammad Naim Sheikh is observed attempting to pacify Irfan, while an angered Babar expresses his sentiments to the keeper.

The ex-Pakistan captain is observed having a conversation with his batting companion Mohammad Nabi regarding the issue. Subsequently, the on-field umpires stepped in to diffuse the situation.

Demonstrating resilience in his batting, even after the altercation with Dhaka keeper Irfan, Babar managed to compile a significant 62 runs off 46 deliveries. His innings included five fours and a six, contributing to Rangpur Riders posting a competitive total of 183/8.

The Pakistani batting sensation has showcased consistent form with the bat. Across three matches in BPL 2024, he has accumulated 120 runs at an average of 60.00 and a strike rate of 116.50.

Although Babar emerged as the leading run-scorer for Rangpur Riders, several other players made valuable contributions. Opener Brandon King hit 20 off 13, skipper Nurul Hasan scored 26 off 24, and Azmatullah Omarzai delivered a brisk 32 off 15 balls.

Shamim Hossain also provided a quick cameo, contributing 17 in eight balls. Arafat Sunny of Durdanto Dhaka achieved figures of 3/32. Rangpur Riders displayed a commanding bowling performance, dismissing Durdanto Dhaka for 104 in 16.3 overs.

Alex Ross played a notable innings, scoring 51 off 35, but the rest of the batters struggled to make an impact in the chase. In the bowling department, Mahedi Hasan secured three wickets, while Omarzai and Hasan Mahmud claimed two each. Rangpur Riders sealed a comprehensive 79-run victory.

As per the BPL 2024 points table, Rangpur Riders currently hold the fourth position with four points and a net run rate of +0.734.
