[WATCH]- Ben Stokes Ends Ninth-Wicket Stand As Bumrah Falls On Day 5 Of ENG vs IND 3rd Test

England skipper Ben Stokes delivered a vital breakthrough for his side by dismissing Jasprit Bumrah and ending a resilient ninth-wicket stand on Day 5 of the third Test at Lord’s on Monday, July 14. Bumrah, who had been showing patience, ultimately lost his composure and fell while attempting a hook shot, gifting his wicket to Stokes.

Bumrah, a right-handed lower-order batter, was dismissed for 5 runs off 54 deliveries, having stitched together a 35-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja over 22 overs. The breakthrough came in the 62nd over of India’s chase when Stokes delivered a short ball around waist height. Bumrah tried to take it on but failed to control the shot.

He ended up miscuing the ball, which was safely caught by substitute fielder Sam Cook, who ran backwards from mid-on to complete a fine catch. The reckless shot drew visible frustration from Jadeja, who had been repeatedly shaking his head in disappointment as Bumrah attempted aggressive strokes against Stokes.

Bumrah Departs Cheaply As England Tighten Grip On 3rd Test

England are on the brink of securing victory in the third Test against India after delivering a disciplined bowling performance on Day 5. Starting the final day at 58/4, India were struggling at 154/9 at the time of writing, with Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj at the crease.

Captain Ben Stokes and pacer Jofra Archer led the charge for England, each claiming three wickets. England had earlier posted 387 in their first innings, bolstered by Joe Root’s 37th Test century. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India, finishing with a five-wicket haul. India replied with an identical total, largely thanks to KL Rahul’s 10th century in Test cricket.

Chris Woakes impressed with the ball for England, picking up three wickets. India bowled out England for 192 in the second innings, with Washington Sundar taking 4/22. Joe Root top-scored with 40. With the series tied 1-1, England can take a 2-1 lead. The fourth Test starts on July 23 at Old Trafford.
