India’s Test captain Shubman Gill was sent back early on Day 4 of the first Test at Headingley, falling to England pacer Brydon Carse for just eight runs. Attempting a cut shot to a delivery that was too close to his body, Gill ended up dragging the ball onto his stumps on the final delivery of the 25th over.
The breakthrough provided England with a perfect start as they aimed to restrict India to a manageable target in the fourth innings. With Gill’s departure, the responsibility shifted to senior batters like KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to guide India to a competitive total. You can watch the dismissal video here:

Gill’s dismissal marked the end of a mixed performance with the bat in his debut as Test captain. The 25-year-old impressed with a brilliant 147 in the first innings but could manage only eight runs in the second.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul brought up another well-made half-century and is steadying the innings alongside Rishabh Pant following Gill’s departure. India has crossed the 100-run lead mark, but there’s still a long way to go in setting a challenging target.
Rahul and Pant crucial as India aim to build on lead on Day 4 at Leeds
India started Day 4 with a 96-run lead, but the early dismissal of skipper Shubman Gill shifted the pressure onto KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to push the visitors toward a defendable total in the final innings. Rahul has looked fluent in the second innings, with his elegant cover drives standing out.
Pant, who smashed a brilliant 134 in the first innings, will once again play a pivotal role in keeping the pressure on England, who are hoping to limit India to a modest target. At the time of reporting, India were 102 for 3, with Rahul and Pant at the crease, extending the lead to 108 runs.
