[WATCH]: Crowd Shows A Heartwarming Gesture For David Warner

David Warner’s departure during the second innings of the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was met with an overwhelming display of appreciation from the enthusiastic crowd. Despite his short-lived stint in this innings, managing only six runs before Mir Hamza sent him back to the pavilion, Warner’s exit was marked by a heartfelt standing ovation.

His attempt to pull a short ball outside off resulted in an unfortunate drag onto the middle stump, leading to his disappointment. Yet, the resonance of the MCG’s applause appeared to uplift his spirits. In a gesture of gratitude and recognition, Warner waved his bat in acknowledgment and even handed his batting gloves to a young fan, illuminating the camaraderie between players and supporters.

Reflecting on Warner’s recent performances, his inaugural Test of the series against Pakistan in Perth showcased his prowess with a splendid century, anchoring Australia’s triumph by a whopping 360 runs. While he amassed a commendable 162 in the first innings, the second innings saw him depart without adding to his tally. His contributions in Melbourne stood at 38 and the aforementioned 6 runs. As the series progresses, Warner’s final appearance will be a nostalgic one at his hometown ground in Sydney, scheduled to commence on 3rd January.

In the face of Pakistan’s formidable challenge, Australia faced moments of vulnerability, especially with rapid dismissals of key players like Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne. Pat Cummins showcased his prowess by claiming five wickets, concluding with impressive figures of 5-48, while Nathan Lyon’s bowling finesse accounted for 4-73, restricting Pakistan to 264.

Pakistan’s bowling artillery, spearheaded by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mir Hamza, exerted pressure on Australia, culminating in a precarious position at 16 for 4, with a slender lead of merely 68 runs. Nonetheless, a pivotal juncture emerged when Abdullah Shafique missed an opportunity to dismiss Mitchell Marsh, then on 20, at first slip, potentially altering the course of the game.
