[WATCH]- Abdullah Shafique Dropped An Easy Catch At First Slip, Giving Mitchell Marsh A Big Chance

Abdullah Shafique‘s unfortunate series as a fielder persisted with another dropped catch in the ongoing Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Positioned at first slip during Australia’s second innings, Shafique missed the opportunity to dismiss Mitchell Marsh, leaving the hosts at 46-5 during the second session of Day 3.

The Pakistani team had control of the game as Australia struggled at 16-4 with a minimal lead. They were on the verge of breaking the partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith when Aamer Jamal induced an edge from the all-rounder in the 16th over.

Marsh attempted an expansive drive but failed to connect with the middle of the bat. Following the edge, the ball went directly to the slips. Unfortunately, Shafique missed the straightforward chance, and to compound the issue, Salman Agha at second slip couldn’t react in time to catch the ball after it slipped from his teammate’s hand.

The collaboration between the two players has developed, and Australia’s lead has surpassed the three-figure mark. Currently, the Australian team stands at 66-4 with a lead of 120 runs.

Abdullah Shafique also missed a catch from David Warner at first slip in the initial innings

Shafique missed an easy opportunity, offering Usman Khawaja a second chance in the first Test at Optus Stadium in Perth. The fielding error occurred during a straightforward running catch, drawing criticism.

Abdullah Shafique’s luck didn’t improve, and he continued his poor run by missing an opportunity off David Warner in the first innings of the second Test. Shaheen Afridi created a golden chance with a full-pitched delivery that moved away from the left-handed batsman.

However, Shafique couldn’t secure the catch but remained in his position at first slip. Pakistan’s fielding has consistently been in the spotlight, regardless of when or where they play.

A misfield by captain Shan Masood at the beginning of the series opener arguably set the tone, and only the future will reveal whether their latest drop will have significant consequences or not.
