Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has kicked off his training in preparation for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The five-time champions are set to begin their campaign against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on March 23.

Gaikwad, who will take charge of the team this season, was spotted practicing in the nets at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana in Pune. A video of his training session was shared on X (formerly Twitter). You can watch the video here:

The CSK captain has been absent from the Indian team but has remained active in domestic cricket, representing Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy in recent times.

Gaikwad enjoyed a strong IPL 2024 campaign with the bat, amassing 583 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 53.00 and a strike rate of 141.16. His performances included a century and four half-centuries.

CSK seeks redemption after a tough 2024 finish

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) narrowly missed the playoffs last season, finishing fifth with seven wins and seven losses, totaling 14 points. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured the fourth spot with the same points but a superior net run rate, eliminating CSK with a crucial win in the final league game.

As five-time IPL champions, CSK remains one of the league’s most successful teams. Under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership, they will aim for a stronger performance this season. Gaikwad has been a crucial player for CSK over the years, featuring in 66 IPL matches and amassing 2,380 runs at an average of 41.75 and a strike rate of 136.86.

His impressive record includes two centuries, 18 half-centuries, and a highest score of an unbeaten 108. He will be keen to carry forward his form from last season and play a pivotal role in CSK’s quest for success in IPL 2025.
