In his 100th Test, Australian opening batsman David Warner became just the second Australian cricketer to record a century. On Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) against South Africa, the southpaw reached the milestone.

The 36-year-old was thrilled to bring his double century with his wife Candice Warner supporting him from the stands as he completed his century with a boundary. He went on to convert this century into the third double century of his career.

His knock consisted of 16 fours and two maximums. Warner was going through a lean patch in this format due to a string of low scores. This innings should silence the critics who doubted his ability.

While celebrating this milestone, David Warner was seen getting cramps due to hot conditions at the MCG. He was eventually carried out of the ground with the help of the support staff and teammates.

David Warner has now joined former Australian captain Ricky Ponting on the exclusive list, which also includes Colin Cowdrey, Javed Miandad, Gordon Greenidge, Alec Stewart, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, and Joe Root.

The 100th Test Ponting played in Sydney, Australia, had the same opposition, and interestingly, both innings featured plenty of runs for Ponting (2006).

Aussie opener David Warner registers 8000 Test runs

On his way to his 25th Test century, Warner also became the seventh Australian batsman to surpass 8,000 runs. Ricky Ponting, Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Michael Clarke, Mathew Hayden, and Steve Smith are additionally included on the list.

The Aussies lost early wickets in the form of Usman Khawaja (1) and Marnus Labuschagne (14), but Warner and Smith (85) strung a partnership of 239 runs and the lead has crossed 170 runs.

Australia already lead the series 1-0 and will look for a whitewash in order to further solidify their position in the World Test Championship Final.
